Unforgiveness

Did you know that God has the ability to forget?

Do you sometimes forget things? I often walk from my room to my kitchen and I wonder, “What did I come here for? I know it was important” I would hang around the kitchen, pulling my face into a prune-like exterior, (because we all think better when every muscle in our faces are pulled into a bunch and our one hand is placed on our foreheads!) I walk around the kitchen opening and closing cupboards, hoping that somehow my appliances would “talk to me” and remind me of what it was that made me leave my room and go to the kitchen in the first place.

I find it amazing that more often than not, I have to go back to doing what I was doing in the bedroom, to be able to remember what I went to go in to do, in the kitchen.

Why do we feel the need to go back to “that” place in our minds, “that room” in our thoughts, just to think about the things that hurt us, just in case we forget?

Holding onto memories of how someone hurt you, thinking that you will somehow hurt them by not forgiving or forgetting, is the same as taking a glass of poison, drinking it, thinking the other person will drop dead!

God says that he forgets your sin when you confess it! I think it is because, remembering your sin, would only hurt Him. So many Christian’s still believe that they will one day be judged for their sin. No! Go and read your bible. There will be no judgement of sin for the Christians, only for those who reject Christ, that was the whole point of Jesus dying, we will only be held accountable for not building His Kingdom after being saved.

Jeremiah 31:34

And they will no more teach each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they will all know Me [recognize, understand, and be acquainted with Me], from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will [seriously] remember their sin no more.

This is a prophetic word for the time we are living in. A time when the Holy Spirit will teach us, the world will have access to the truth, and Jesus already took all our sin to the cross but above all that God forgets all our sin.

Extra scriptures on forgiveness:

Psalm 86:5

For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our trespasses, sending them away, letting them go completely and forever]; and You are abundant in mercy and loving-kindness to all those who call upon You.

Matthew 18:35

So also My heavenly Father will deal with every one of you if you do not freely forgive your brother from your heart his offenses.

Mark 11:25

And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your [own] failings and shortcomings and let them drop.

Mark 11:26

But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your failings and shortcomings.

Luke 6:37

Judge not [neither pronouncing judgment nor subjecting to censure], and you will not be judged; do not condemn and pronounce guilty, and you will not be condemned and pronounced guilty; acquit and forgive and release (give up resentment, let it drop), and you will be acquitted and forgiven and released.

2 Corinthians 2:10

If you forgive anyone anything, I too forgive that one; and what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sakes in the presence [and with the approval] of Christ (the Messiah)

God of The Old Testament

Have you ever wondered about the seemingly cruel nature of the relationship between God and man in the Old Testament? We may wonder if our forefathers deserved the way God treated them in the Old Testament.

Reality is that even today we deserve to be treated that way. We deserve to be sent into Egypt, we deserve to be smote, we even deserve to be turned into pillars of salt for looking back onto our old ways, because we sin all the time. Even when we think we are not sinning there are things we don't do, things that we are suppose to do (those are called sins of omittance).

We do not deserve to be sons of God, we do not deserve to be the bride of Christ, we do not deserve to be friends of God - but Jesus does. We inherit not only His nature when we are born again, but above all, we inherit His sinless reputation. We inherit His right standing with our Father. Jesus is the "rose-colored spectacles" through which God see us.

God looks at Jesus, and loves us!

John 3:17 (AMP)

17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

Leaving it up to, giving it up!

The Bible talks about hell being under our feet. In the Old Testament, the earth tore open and swallowed a whole family, tent and all! Good thing we have Jesus as our Atonement, and we don’t have to fear being swallowed into hell for misbehaving anymore.

The Bible also speaks of heaven being “above us”. God’s voice came from the clouds, and Jesus ascended into the clouds to join His Father.

I have been fascinated by the idea of sacrificing or “giving up” things for quite a while now.

What are the things we “give up”?

Good things or Bad things: We generally give up bad things like cigarettes, swearing, and un-forgiveness.

My thought was, “why don’t we rather give it down?” I think the devil deserves to get all our bad habits!

This was my conclusion: We can try to give our bad habits to the devil, but he just wouldn’t take it… It is one of the few things that he would rather give to us.

“Giving up” and “sacrificing” is the same thing. We sacrifice our offering of money, to God, because if we don’t, the Bible warns us that “the love of money” can become “idol worshipping”, just as drinking wine out of control can become alcoholism. We know that we do not have to necessarily own a lot of alcohol to be an alcoholic. Just the same, you don’t have to have a lot of money, to be a lover of money.

Giving up our offering of money, (besides sowing seed), is our insurance policy and heart inspection, to keep our addiction or idol worship of mammon in check.

How do you know you are in check? Ask yourself this: “am I a cheerful giver?”

2 Corinthians 9:7 AMP

Let each one give as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, "prompt to do it") giver whose heart is in his giving.

What flavor are you?

Let’s look at John 12:2-5...

In this seen, Jesus is in a house with Mary, Martha and Lazarus, who were brother and sisters. They were Jesus’ closest friends. He had recently raised Lazarus from the dead, and we know that Mary and Martha each represented a different kind of gifting and personality. Martha had a gift of serving, and Mary on the other-hand loved to listen and learn from Jesus at His feet.

John 12:2-3 (AMP)

2 So they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those at the table with Him.
3 Mary took a pound of ointment of pure liquid nard [a rare perfume] that was very expensive, and she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped them with her hair. And the whole house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

I want us to focus on the part in verse 3 that says:

“...And the whole house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.”

• If we look at the word “fragrance” in the Old Testament, you will find that together it is used 25 times in the books of Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers. And in every single instance it is used to describe the fragrance of a sacrifice.

Example:

Numbers 28:27

27 But you shall offer the burnt offering for a sweet, pleasing, and soothing fragrance to the Lord...

• The word “fragrance” is used another 5 times in the book “Song of Solomon”. Of course in Song of Solomon, as you could guess, the word is used to describe the atmosphere in which love can be found as well as a parallel to the experience of love.

Example:

Song of Solomon 1:12

12 While the king sits at his table [she said], my spikenard [my absent lover] sends forth [his] fragrance [over me].

Song of Solomon 2:13

13 The fig tree puts forth and ripens her green figs, and the vines are in blossom and give forth their fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

• In the book of Hosea (which is the final time the word “fragrance” is used in the Old Testament), it is used to describe what the “spiritual fragrance” of the church should be to God

Hosea 14:6

6 His suckers and shoots shall spread, and his beauty shall be like the olive tree and his fragrance like [the cedars and aromatic shrubs of] Lebanon.

In the New Testament the word “fragrance” is used 3 times.

•  Firstly to refer to the anointing oil that Mary pours out on Jesus’ feet (as we have already read) as a prophetic embalming of Him, as He awaits His impending sacrifice through death. It is an illusion to the fact that He is the “acceptable sacrifice” a “sweet smelling sacrifice”.

John 12:7

7 But Jesus said, Let her alone. It was [intended] that she should keep it for the time of My preparation for burial. [She has kept it that she might have it for the time of My embalming.]

• The second time the word “fragrance” is used in the New Testament, it is in the book of 2 Corinthians.

Firstly it mentions the “fragrance of the knowledge of God” verse 14 and secondly it speaks of “fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God” verse 15.

(I would advise you to do a more extensive study on this topic on your own, as I cannot cover all the revelation knowledge stored up in scripture in such a short study)

2 Corinthians 2:14-16

14 But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere,
15 For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing:
16 To the latter it is an aroma [wafted] from death to death [a fatal odor, the smell of doom]; to the former it is an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is qualified (fit and sufficient) for these things? [Who is able for such a ministry? We?]

• Lastly the Bible speaks of us loving each other because of the sweet smelling sacrifice of Jesus.

Ephesians 5:2

2. And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.

Let’s look at all of the references together:

Old Testament
1. The soothing fragrance of sacrifice - in Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers
2. The fragrance of love - in Song of Solomon
3. The prophecy of a fragrant church - in Hosea
New Testament
4. Then there is the prophetic act of embalming Jesus as a sacrifice in the fragrance of Mary’s oil - in John
5. Also there is the fragrance of the knowledge of God and fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God through us - in 2 Corinthians
6. Lastly there is Jesus who became a sweet fragranced sacrifice.

What do you smell like to your wife, your husband, your children, your friends or even your congregation? Do you light up a room with the sweet smell of Joy, Life and Jesus, or are you the one who bears the smell of death and decay?

Know that:
1. your sacrifices to God and man
2. the Word and knowledge you teach and live
3. the death to self and life through Christ
4. as well as the love you have for others...

...will be the fragrance or the odour that your family and friends have to live with every day.

If you feel a little smelly...wash yourself in the Word!

Organizations vs. Families

Is it possible that we could start off in ministry, with an authentic call of God on our lives, but that our original intentions could become muddled as we fight our way to the finish line...?

John 11:47-50 (AMP)

47 So the chief priests and Pharisees called a meeting of the council (the Sanhedrin) and said, What are we to do? For this Man performs many signs (evidences, miracles).
48 If we let Him alone to go on like this, everyone will believe in Him and adhere to Him, and the Romans will come and suppress and destroy and take away our [holy] place and our nation [our temple and city and our civil organization].

The Pharisees where so blinded by the threat Jesus posed to their organization, that their faith somehow took a backseat. They could not see their Saviour right in front of them because they where blinded by the structure they where trying to uphold.

God often chooses us because of our focus and dedication to growing His Kingdom on earth. But could it be that we can become so focused on building our ministerial organisations, that we literally become one track minded? Look at the Jews. They had knowledge of the entire Old Testament, that explained exactly how to identify the Messiah, yet they where in so much FEAR of damaging their organization, (their status quo), that they where too blind to see the Saviour Himself, whom they had been anticipating and awaiting for their entire careers...

We can never make choices purely to benefit our organisations. We have to be “living sacrifices” that would give up the comfort of all we have built, to further that which God Himself is building!

There is no such thing as bodies of Christ, only THE Body of Christ! We have to stop thinking that our agendas are bigger than God’s. We have to respect that God has given each man the ability to hear God’s voice, and bless each other to do what God called us to do.

I truly believe that a great leader has the potential to recognise the ministerial call on the lives of the people he raises. This should be clear in the fruit he produces. Such a leader will raise great strong leaders in short periods of time (keep in mind that Jesus took 3 years to raise 12 people upon whom the entire Christian church was built + they where trusted to write a great part of the inspired Word of God), and they will be dispatched like wild mushrooms! If it takes you much longer than 3 years to raise a person (unless age is a factor), then you are not effectively raising leaders, or you are not identifying the right people. Boiling a chicken for 20 years does not maketh a more flavoursome dish!

If you are not planting churches after 4 – 6 years in your ministry, you are missing the call on your leaders lives. If you say “well that’s all fine and dandy but I just don’t have leaders in my church” then I say it is your fault, because if God knew that you could be trusted with the future of great leaders, then surly He would provide...

There is a horrifying doctrine floating about the modern church, that advocates that if you believe God has spoken to you, and you decide to follow God’s voice and pursue your life calling without the “blessing of the man in charge” you open yourself up to die of cancer, get run over by a steamroller, or even worse...

This teaching puts people is such bondage, and they are so brainwashed, that by the time they do cut themselves loose, they are broken, battered and drenched in fear. Their own fear leads to a lack of faith and often the eventual acceptance of the curse put on them by “the man that never sent them”. The irony is that if people “in charge” loved the people under them, at least as much as they love themselves, they would adhere to God’s voice, and those who are supposed to be sent would not be left in the “wilderness” dying outside of God’s perfect will for their lives.

If we as assemblies are going to use terms like, Father, Mother, Children etc. then at least let those terms not be a mockery compared to a true family setup. In reality good parents go to bed hungry to feed their children, and fathers work in the most inhuman conditions to give their children more than what they ever had.

Apostle G Maldonado preaches that, the most a father has gathered in resources during his lifetime should be the start, (the least) of where his son should set out in life.

If you expect the spiritual children in your church to start off in life with all the same disadvantages you had, instead of all the advantages you have gained... check your heart for unresolved pain, and make sure you are not taking revenge for hurts that where inflicted on you, or even worse, a general lack of the God-kind of love towards people... Would you give up a comfortable life to do the will of God?

Matthew 19:16-26

16 And behold, there came a man up to Him, saying, Teacher, what excellent and perfectly and essentially good deed must I do to possess eternal life?

17 And He said to him, Why do you ask Me about the perfectly and essentially good? There is only One Who is good [perfectly and essentially]—God. If you would enter into the Life, you must continually keep the commandments.

18 He said to Him, What [a]sort of commandments? [Or, which ones?] And Jesus answered, You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,

19 Honor your father and your mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.

20 The young man said, I have observed all these from my youth; what still do I lack?

21 Jesus answered him, If you would be perfect [that is, [b]have that spiritual maturity which accompanies self-sacrificing character], go and sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; and come, be My disciple [side with My party and follow Me].

22 But when the young man heard this, he went away sad (grieved and in much distress), for he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you, it will be difficult for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven.
There is only one New Testament law that covers all: Love God and Love One another as you love yourself.

There is only one New Testament law that covers all: Love God and Love One another as you love yourself.

Extra:

2 Corinthians 2:17

17 For we are not, like so many, [like hucksters making a trade of] peddling God’s Word [shortchanging and adulterating the divine message]; but like [men] of sincerity and the purest motive, as [commissioned and sent] by God, we speak [His message] in Christ (the Messiah), in the [very] sight and presence of God.

God of miracles 6 - “little gods”

John 10:33-40 (AMP)

33 The Jews replied, We are not going to stone You for a good act, but for blasphemy, because You, a mere Man, make Yourself [out to be] God.
34 Jesus answered, Is it not written in your Law, I said, You are gods?

I listened to a teaching once, by a very prominent teacher of the Word. He said that we are created in God’s image and we have His righteousness and Spirit, and we are therefore as His children “little gods” and I outright rejected the teaching as being blasphemous.

I have obviously read the book of John before, but I never noticed this part...”Is it not written in your Law, I said, You are gods?” – this is Jesus confronting the Pharisees about the same issue I had, and Jesus corrects them by quoting the Old Testament.

35 So men are called gods [by the Law], men to whom God’s message came—and the Scripture cannot be set aside or cancelled or broken or annulled—
36 [If that is true] do you say of the One Whom the Father consecrated and dedicated and set apart for Himself and sent into the world, You are blaspheming, because I said, I am the Son of God?
37 If I am not doing the works [performing the deeds] of My Father, then do not believe Me [do not adhere to Me and trust Me and rely on Me].
38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe Me or have faith in Me, [at least] believe the works and have faith in what I do, in order that you may know and understand [clearly] that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father [One with Him].

How are we to distinguish between all the options given to us in the realm of spiritualism? Jesus says here that we should not listen to someone who is just saying the right things; we should listen to the ones who bring the Word and back it up with God’s power. We as humans where never meant to be worshiped; we where created to worship God and God alone. But as His children we have an inheritance that separates us from every other religion on earth - His Power, His Spirit. God never prophesied that there would be a time when raw facts and no Power will be the test of real faith! Just the opposite, the Word says that there will be an increase of the supernatural in the last days.

Acts 2:17

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions (divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream [divinely suggested] dreams.

Mark 16:17-19

17 And these attesting signs will accompany THOSE who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages;

18 They will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well.

19 So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and He sat down at the right hand of God.

If Jesus only wanted the founding Apostles to do miracles when they preached, (as some denominations argue), why did He not say:
“And these attesting signs will accompany YOU standing here now, or those who plant my church in the early days, or you My beloved disciples who believe”

I do not believe that Jesus made a mistake in using such a general term as "those". We serve a supernatural God, with a supernatural message, and if we don’t “bring the power”...people will hear us but they will not understand.

Reading the Bible without being filled with the Holy Spirit is like watching a 3D movie without the glasses - sure you will get the just of it, (even enough to go to heaven), but you will miss out on secret messages and hidden signs from before the dawn of time, waiting to be understood!

Acts 28:26-27

26 Go to this people and say to them, You will indeed hear and hear with your ears but will not understand, and you will indeed look and look with your eyes but will not see [not perceive, have knowledge of or become acquainted with what you look at, at all].
27 For the heart (the understanding, the soul) of this people has grown dull (stupid, hardened, and calloused), and their ears are heavy and hard of hearing and they have shut tight their eyes, so that they may not perceive and have knowledge and become acquainted with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their souls and turn [to Me and be converted], that I may heal them.

I will leave you with this question...

John 10:21

21 Others argued, These are not the thoughts and the language of one possessed. Can a demon-possessed person open blind eyes?

The Knowing 4 - "Tongues and Angels"

...Why do we not love God like the bride in Song of Solomon?...

Praying in tongues and meeting angels

Two weeks after we joined the Pentecostal church, I had to deal with the issue of speaking in tongues. Looking back, I find it so hard to understand why speaking in tongues is such a contentious issue in the modern church...

My husband and I had up to that point, not yet been to a service where we had had to deal with the issue of speaking in tongues, because we had only been attending the morning teaching services and not the more “flowing in the Holy Spirit” evening services.

The church had a tradition of having one “half night of prayer” every quarter of the year. The whole church would come on a Friday evening around 8’O clock and would pray and worship until 12 that night. The pastor would announce a topic of prayer, at times he would give scripture and then people would, walk, sit, and kneel, whatever position made them comfortable, and they would pray.

Then I heard it for the first time... hundreds of people all speaking in tongues. I closed my eyes and I listened. At first it sounded like a beehive buzzing, then it started to sound like a choir. Random sounds falling into unplanned rhythms and a supernatural peace came upon me as I marvelled at the beauty of hearing these new sounds. I knelt down, with my eyes closed and prayed in my own words. I spoke to God and told Him that I don’t yet know how to speak in this new language, but that I will speak to Him the way I do know, and that He is welcome to speak to me in pictures (visions), the way He did on the day of my salvation.

Just as I prayed this, the pastor took the microphone and announced that everybody should find two people that they don’t know, and go and pray together with them, for unity in our multi-cultural nation.

It is so funny, I later found out that the two people I “randomly” picked where in fact pastors serving in that church. The 2 pastors fervently prayed in tongues, while I had to pray in words. All three of us where “praying up a storm”, when Ps. Francis brought a screeching halt to the procession. We opened our eyes and listened to what he had to say... “God just told me that we should stop speaking in tongues and that I should rather share a picture He gave me”. My jaw dropped! “WHO IS THIS GOD I AM SERVING!?” - was all I could think. First He gives me a supernatural vision to get me on a path of new experiences, then I have an intimate conversation with Him about my inability to speak in tongues and the fact that visions where as far as my supernatural in-counters have reached, and then “bam!” He gives a vision to another person, so as to reach me in a way that is comfortable to me.

My God speaks to me.... what a mind-blowing realisation...

I must have looked like I saw a proverbial “ghost”.  I dragged myself back to my seat, closed my eyes and thanked God for making me feel so special. As I finished thanking Him, I opened my eyes to see one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen...

About one-meter above me and every other member in the church hovered gigantic angels. All of them had their hands up in the air praising God. My eyes where only opened to see into the spirit realm for what could not have been more than a second, but what I saw will stay with me for a lifetime!

To be continued...

* The more I read my Bible, the more I realize, that speaking in tongues was the most normal thing during the early church. In fact it served as evidence that people where filled with the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:2 (AMP)

2 For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding].

Why would God say that you speak “truths” if in fact the devil (who is the “father of all lies”, according to the Bible) makes people speak this way?

I find it to be one of the strangest phenomena I have ever come across, that so many conservative, denominational Christians think that the devil has anything to do with tongues? What possible truth can possibly come from him?

Acts 2:4

4 And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].

* (If you want to know more on speaking in tongues I suggest reading “Tongues”- By Kenneth E. Hagin)

Enjoy Woman's Day!

When God made woman, He looked at man, and picked the part of man that was intended to protect the human heart, and then used it to make woman. We are the protectors of the heart of man, but also the "heart of God" which is LOVE above all other precepts.

Tithe - A God who saves (revised)

Introduction

First and foremost: I 100% believe in the blessing of the Tithe, but I question the validity of the curse and subsequent fear that is cultivated in preaching the Old Testament tithe message without New Testament revelation, specifically pertaining to the scripture reference in Malachi 3:10.

Malachi 3:10 (Amp)

10 Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

I believe there are various types of belief systems when it comes to tithing; however, I’d like to highlight two of the main groups.

Both these groups believe in the New Covenant i.e. that one must accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour and believe that He died on the Cross and rose from the dead on the third day. They further believe that He then rose to heaven where He presented His blood to His father to buy all who accept Him back from the dead. This in itself has the legal implication that all people are free from the curse of the Law of Moses and cannot do a single “work” on earth to buy this right standing with God, other than “choosing Jesus as Lord and Saviour”.

Although these two groups agree on this fundamental belief, they have very different views on a few other significant facts.

The first group believes…

We have to work at our Christ-likeness, and make sure to grow from “glory to glory”, knowing that God has abundant grace for our misguided steps. But we have to be sure not to fall into the trap of repetitive un-repented sin because it could cause spiritual death in the long run, as it influences our personal love relationship with the Godhead if we are constantly and purposefully going against what God’s will is for us.

The Old Testament gives us wisdom in the Law of Moses. “The Law” which Jesus said He came to fulfil and not to do away with, now serves as kingdom principals (or guide) rather than a Law, as the Law in itself carries punishment when overstepped. Rather it stands to help us tap into God’s way of doing things. In a way God was training us to be disciplined Christians who are not controlled by our instincts and flesh but rather our Godly knowledge of the way God’s system runs at full capacity.

Tithing is a good example. If we had to give 10 percent under the law, should we not want to give more under grace and love? After all, it has many benefits. You are sowing into the building of God’s kingdom, you are supporting the people who work day and night to bring you the uncompromised Word of God and as an added benefit, it teaches you to, not only bring order in your finances but, it will serve as a point of contact for your faith to rise in trusting God to prosper you financially.

In a sense you are saying to God, “Because You said, that “what we sow we shall reap”, God I lovingly, with gladness in my heart sow into the building and the sustaining of your kingdom on earth, knowing that you are a God of love and you will bless me with wisdom, for I have sown in wisdom, and you will bless my finances, because I have sown finances etc.

It is not the “nithe” or the “fithe” it is the “tithe” the word “tithe” is derived from the word “tenth” and according to Gods wisdom it is just enough to keep the pesky spirit of mammon off our shoulders. It is interesting that when God mentioned that we “cannot serve two God’s”, he did not mention Satan as His no. 1 nemesis when it comes to being worshiped by man, but rather He chose Mammon (the evil spirit of the love of money).

Isn’t it sad that Cane killed Abel because Abel’s offering was accepted but not Cain’s? Why did God prefer Abel’s offering despite the fact that they gave the same quantity? Could it be the love factor?

If God can trust you with the tithe, then surely he will see you as a good steward and entrust you with more…

The second group believes…

Although this group also believes in the New Covenant, they also believe that the power of sin could be brought back if a clean slate, pertaining to sin, isn’t kept. When one sins, God stands back folds His arms and says, “I can’t help you, now the devil has free reign in your life, because you have personally resurrected the power of sin, I want to help you… but I can’t…”

Here are a few quotes I have personally come across over the years (all of these people are amazing Christians):

“If you do not tithe, your prayers will not be answered” - Pastor – morning offering message. (Direct quote)

“My husband and I had trouble falling pregnant. Doctors didn’t have hope for us ever conceiving. We never use to tithe, and when I lost my baby during my pregnancy, God told me that it was not Him who killed my baby, but rather that He was powerless to stop the devil’s attack, because I put myself outside His protection because I didn’t tithe. We choose not to be under the protection of God if we don’t tithe.” – Pastor in a cell meeting (paraphrased)

“You cannot be under God’s protection, the protection of the Covenant of Abraham if you don’t tithe. You step outside the boundary of God’s power over your life, by choosing not to tithe.” - Pastor (paraphrased)

“I am a single woman who works for tips. I have been tithing for over 15 years. A few months ago I physically just could not afford to tithe as well as pay my rent. For that entire month I was in fear of even driving my car. I was sure that I might be in an accident, as I was outside the protection of God, because of my disobedience.” – Long-time church member

This second group believes that they have the power to undo what Jesus did for you by overstepping some of the more prominent ordinances, laws and commandments.

These people rightfully believe that we don’t have to worry about the animal sacrifices because Jesus became our offering. Also don’t worry about the “abomination” of eating lobster and snails, Jesus said that the problem is not what goes into our mouths that is foul but rather what comes out of it that is wrong. Don’t worry about burning frankincense when you pray (Lev 2:2), and don’t worry about dressing up your Minister, Pastor or Priest in pointy hats and scarves because we are free from those “little ordinances” (Lev 8:8-9)...

... but be sure to tithe because the tithe “somehow” still carries the curse.

What does the Word say in the New Testament?

2 Corinthians 3:9

9 “For if the service that condemns [the ministration of doom] had glory, how infinitely more abounding in splendor and glory must be the service that makes righteous [the ministry that produces and fosters righteous living and right standing with God]!”

In other words righteousness exceeds condemnation…

Colossians 2:14

14 “Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.”

Romans 8:1

1 “THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.”

I understand that we cannot just walk and do as we please. We should do as Jesus did and even more importantly we should do it for the same reason Jesus did it. Jesus often didn’t go according to the letter of the law, yet He was without sin and God said that He fulfilled the whole Law. He chose not to stone the adulteress woman because love and compassion supersedes the letter of the law. I know that tithing was there before the Law, but the moment it became a part of the Law it became a curse at the same time, IF we think that without it we are not righteous (i.e. in right standing with God).

Romans 5:17

17 “For if because of one man's trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).”

Galatians 3:10

10 “And all who depend on the Law [who are seeking to be justified by obedience to the Law of rituals] are under a curse and doomed to disappointment and destruction, for it is written in the Scriptures, Cursed (accursed, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment) be everyone who does not continue to abide (live and remain) by all the precepts and commands written in the Book of the Law and to practice them.

Romans 11:29

29 “For God's gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]”

We can become faithless Christians because of the religious doctrine of tithing and all the threats and accusations that accompany it, because we then believe that God’s hand is not upon us if we don’t tithe, and because it is our belief that God needs the tithe in order to save and help us, that in itself becomes the curse. That in which you have faith becomes your downfall. We have faith in our own works that leads to a self inflicted curse that God warns us about when He tells us not to be deceived by our lack of knowledge and understanding.

The Malachi issue

Context is very important when reading Malachi. At the time when Malachi was written, Jesus had not yet presented His blood to become the righteousness for His people. Burnt sacrifices for atonement and the keeping of the entire Law of Moses was the only way people could be in right standing with God in the time when Malachi was written.

The people spoken of in the book of Malachi became “religious” about their giving and doing of the Law because they lost their reverent fear of the Lord. Instead of giving their best animal in their flock to God, they would give a blind useless animal, so that they would not “feel” the sacrifice in their pockets. They had become selfish.

Malachi also talks about their moral decay. The priests were not in a ‘right-heart-condition’ towards God. Husbands were leaving their Hebrew wives for heathen wives. Malachi also mentions that there was a general feeling that people who were not doing God’s Law seemed to get away with it unscathed. The people to whom this letter was written, were questioning why they must do all the tedious ordnances of Moses’ Law, when in fact, those who didn’t were, as far as they could see, getting away with it. Also they made up excuses to get away from their duties by saying ‘we have not, therefore we give not’.

God then speaks through the prophet Malachi in Malachi 3:9 (Amp) “You are cursed with the curse, for you are robbing Me, even this whole nation.”

Barnes' Notes on the Bible:

“Ye have been cursed with the curse - (not "with a curse"). The curse threatened had come upon them: but, as fore-supposed in Leviticus by the repeated burden, "If ye still walk contrary to Me," they had persevered in evil. God had already shown His displeasure. But they, so far from being amended by it, were the more hardened in their sin.

Perhaps as men do, they pleaded their punishment, as a reason why they should not amend. They defrauded God, under false pretences. They were impoverished by His curse, and so they could not afford to pay the tithes; as men say, "the times are bad; so we cannot help the poor" of Christ. "And Me ye still are defrauding" Me, ye; man, God. And that not one or other, but this whole people. It was a requital as to that in which they had offended. "Because ye have not rendered tithes and first-fruits, therefore ye are cursed in famine and penury." "Because the people did not render tithes and first-fruits to the Levites, the Lord saith, that He Himself suffered fraud, whose ministers, constrained by hunger and penury, deserted the temple. For, if He is visited by others in prison, and sick, is received and cared for, and, hungry and athirst, receives food and drink, why should He not receive tithes in His ministers, and, if they are not given, be Himself deprived of His portion?"

– Barnes

Why where they robbing God?

Because they took something that was owed to God, in order to be in right standing with Him.

Do we as pure reborn Christians still owe God anything under the New Covenant today? This is what God says about “external religious worship”:

James 1:27

“External religious worship [religion as it is expressed in outward acts] that is pure and unblemished in the sight of God the Father is this: to visit and help and care for the orphans and widows in their affliction and need, and to keep oneself unspotted and uncontaminated from the world.”

… I have to say “no” we do not owe God anything, not even the tithe… Salvation is a free gift! We are not subject to the wrath of God for bringing Him lame and blind offerings any more. We have fallen short and will fall short according to Moses’ Law till Kingdom come. The Good News is that we have been redeemed not to need fleshly works at all to earn our place in God’s Supernatural covering and protection. We have done all we can do to earn our “free gift” by purely accepting Jesus as our Lord and saviour.

Sanctification, holiness and Christ-likeness is a whole different story…

Yes, don’t bring your lame, unloving offerings and fear based tithes to the Lord, because we cannot “fool” God into believing that we are worshipping or loving Him, just as Cane could not “fool” God by giving in the same volume as his brother Abel, but without love. Without love and the joy of giving, nothing we do means anything.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving].

As a matter interest rather than pure theology…

I read through the whole of Leviticus in a single stretch to really get a feel for the subject matter being discussed in this article, and I found something very interesting…

Up until Leviticus 26 the Law is laid out. Some trespasses are called sin others are called abominations, some sins are warned against and others have penalties or death sentences attached to them. Then in Leviticus 26 God explains the blessings attached to the obedience of The Law, and after that, also the extent of the curse for those who overstep The Law given.

This is what I found interesting - nowhere before the reading of the blessing or the curse, (that appears in chapter 26) is tithing mentioned… only after chapter 26 in chapter 27 the last 4 verses of the entire book of Leviticus it is explained. And what God has to say about the tithe explains exactly how I think we should look at the tithe:

- “it is holy to the Lord”

Leviticus 27:30-34

30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord.
31 And if a man wants to redeem any of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it.
32 And all the tithe of the herd or of the flock, whatever passes under the herdsman's staff [by means of which each tenth animal as it passes through a small door is selected and marked], the tenth shall be holy to the Lord.
33 The man shall not examine whether the animal is good or bad nor shall he exchange it. If he does exchange it, then both it and the animal substituted for it shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.
34 These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites.

1 Corinthians 13

1 “IF I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God's love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.”

Why then do I personally tithe?

Because the Word says that it is “Holy unto Him”, in other words, it is very special to our Father. This is a high priority and intimate moment between you and your Father where you present an offering from your HEART.

When is dreaded unbiblical “religious” behaviour born?

Manmade religion is birthed the moment we think that right standing with God can be bought or earned or even guaranteed by any other means rather than Jesus’ blood and God’s unconditional, unmerited, undeserving LOVE and boundless MERCY AND GRACE. This idea that sin removes us from the power that God has over our lives and that our disobedience leads to His “pulling away and leaving us, so the devil can have a “Job-like dance” with our lives and the lives of our children” is nothing short of heresy in my opinion! We all sin all the time, just looking around in a church at the way people are dressed can lead to lust, not to mention “sticky sin” that almost every human combats on a minute to minute base, like pride, un-forgiveness and jealousy.

We are all sinners, all the time, and there is no such thing as “more” or “less” condemning sin, except maybe to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, which the Bible says is unpardonable.

Why didn’t tithing make the “top 10” most focused-on points in the Old Testament?

If, not tithing as a Christian, can leave you out there like a sitting duck, with no protection from God, why didn’t God warn us in the 10 commandments? Surely such a trap and threat with such a dire-some curse attached to it should at the very least be mentioned with - not worshipping idols, and killing people?

Old Testament teaching on the tithe without New Testament revelation (not just scripture on being a cheerful giver, but true revelation on grace in the tithe message) to me is the equivalent of rape versus love, it might be the same in its mechanics, but in essence is not the same thing at all…

Are we using FEAR to draw out our tithes? Or are we using FAITH and our commitment to the GREAT COMMISION? And do we need to use FEAR as a tool, if we give people enough revelation on the subject of building God’s physical churches. Wouldn’t it be more efficient if we just point out the reality of the cost involved in bringing His Word and His Love to others?

This is not rebellion or an attack on any church in any way. I do believe that we unwittingly curse our congregations by saying things like, “If you don’t tithe your prayers will not be answered” and “If you don’t tithe, you render God completely powerless over your finances and life”. Doesn’t the Word say that what we bind on earth is bound in heaven?

In my opinion people don’t leave churches because they are uncomfortable talking about money, prosperity or even parting with their money. They leave because they feel like they are put under condemnation, and are tied under a “give or just see what happens if you don’t …” curse. Especially those who come from conservative background churches, who are not completely desensitised to the constant threats that God will leave them “out in the cold” without His 10% payment.

“Do not perplex the weak believer”

As a church, we rarely have any idea what a new converts life was like before they entered the doors of our building. It is my personal conjecture that you have 2 extremes to deal with, those who need a measure of sanctification and those who need even more...

Example: You have person “A” walking out of a boardroom, with beautiful wife and children, who have had a fairly normal childhood, and “Christian morals”. They know the Bible because of years of attending a conservative church, but had never had true revelation or ever really understood the power of the Holy Spirit until they walked into your Spirit filled church. This person has sin in their lives. Maybe they smoke, maybe they don’t love their family like they should etc. Righteousness is instant the moment they surrender themselves to Jesus but sanctification is the road the Holy Spirit will walk with them. I believe that God’s mercy tailor-makes each one of our “top 10 lists” of things we need to do or lay down, to be closer to Him and when we get done dealing with those things, He will update our lists with “10 more things” we must do.

Is it fair to say then, that Tithing might make person A’s so called “top 10 list”? It might... But what about a person who was sold into prostitution by their own parents when they where 7 years old? Would tithing be on their “top 10 list”? It’s harder for me to imagine that.

It is our duty as the body of Christ not to perplex people by confusing them with our own ideas of the shortest road to reaching Christ-likeness, versus the more excellent plan the Holy Spirit already has in mind for every new person who is saved.

My point is that we as ministers of the Word cannot force revelation, on the topic of tithing, onto new believers purely because we personally benefit from it in the flesh. It is our duty to teach the principle of the tithe as we would any other revelation the Word gives us on how to be a successful Christian. I believe that we have to teach the principal of the tithe, with all the truth and New Testament grace that the Bible has to offer, and add no curse brought forward from the Old Testament.

In Conclusion:

Our fight is not against “flesh and blood” it is against a spirit realm dominated with truth-like lies of which the worst are inherited lies. I thank God for planting me into a Spirit-filled church, and pray that until He comes to fetch me, I will be renewed in my mind and views on every letter of His Holy Word, daily.

God of miracles 5 - "Glass-Bottle-Bottom"

I wrote in “God of Miracles Part 3” about Apostle Guillermo Maldonado’s visit to our church. I was at church yesterday and heard the most amazing testimony by a lady who has been attending our church for many years.

Her name is Priscilla Taylor (age 67). She came up to me during the conference a week ago; she knew that Apostle Maldonado is known for operating in the supernatural, and that healing makes up a great deal of his ministry. As I greeted her at one of the meetings she said to me: “I am here to get my healing!” She told me that she has had problems with her eyes since she was 7 years old and that she has been wearing glasses for 60 years of her life. She was diagnosed as being near-sited, so she wore thick “glass-bottle-bottom” spectacles that made her eyes look small on her face. She told me that she has been battling with cataracts as well, and that they have been rapidly growing on her eyes, and that this has left her close to being completely blind.

But yesterday, I almost did not recognise her... She looked at me with her green-blue eyes, without those thick glasses, and she appeared to be 15 years younger. She laughed and said that she was going to change her name, because no one recognises her any more. I thought I needed my eyes tested! God healed her completely! Her eyes where as clear as the ocean, I even got her approval to post this picture (of me and her) by showing it to her on a cell-phone screen, which she could obviously see. We laughed about how photographs always seem to add a double chin, which we “clearly” don’t have at any other time except when photographed...

60 Years of near blindness was no match for the Glory of God and the expectancy of a faith-filled daughter.

God of miracles 4 - "Fig Tree"

I have been reading the book of John this week. In the first chapter there is an amazing incident where the disciple Nathanael is introduced to Jesus. Philip speaks to Natanael (John 1:45 - 46) and tells him “we have found the One...Jesus from Nazareth...” and then Nathanael says “Can anything good come out of nazareth?..”

John 1:47-51 (Amp)

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him and said concerning him, See! Here is an Israelite indeed [a true descendant of Jacob], in whom there is no guile nor deceit nor falsehood nor duplicity!

• Jesus takes one look at Nathanael and sees exactly who he is, without being introduced to him. This is an act of supernatural power.

48 Nathanael said to Jesus, How do You know me? [How is it that You know these things about me?] Jesus answered him, Before [ever] Philip called you, when you were still under the fig tree, I saw you.
49 Nathanael answered, Teacher, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!

• For Nathanael this supernatural meeting between him and Jesus is enough for him to recognise Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. Jesus is almost surprised in the next verse that it took so little for Nathanael to believe that He is the Son of God.

50 Jesus replied, Because I said to you, I saw you beneath the fig tree, do you believe in and rely on and trust in Me? You shall see greater things than this!
51 Then He said to him, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you all, you shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man!

This story is amazing!

We should never believe that our miraculous moment of salvation and rebirth into God’s Kingdom is “as good as it gets”. We should not expect that this is the first and last act of our miraculous journey on earth!

Jesus says that this is just the start of your journey of miracles!

Are we expecting too little of our supernatural God?

Are we so exited to meet Him that we expect nothing more from Him?

Jesus says: “YOU SHALL SEE GREATER THINGS THAN THIS!”

John 14:11

11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me; or else believe Me for the sake of the [very] works themselves. [If you cannot trust Me, at least let these works that I do in My Father’s name convince you.]
